A battle fought and won!

Good evening. We are writing from a lovely hotel room in New Orleans.

After 13 straight hours of driving from Chicago to Mendenhall, Mississippi we reached our first destination - Genesis One School to hand out school supplies. Although a much longer blog will come with pictures to document our time there, there is one word we can use to summarize the day: AMAZING. It was one of the coolest experiences we have ever experienced in life.

After that we took the 2 1/2 hour journey down to New Orleans. After conquering driving over a 5 mile long bridge (that is ALL over water) we started seeing actual New Orleans. It really makes you sad to see that 2 years later the effects of Hurricane Katrina are still here. There are MANY houses in shambles, sheets hanging out windows, the word HELP on rooftops, houses abandoned and people just wondering around looking sad.

Now that we are here, we immediately went to "testing" out the beds in our hotel room, and needless to say, with having no more than an hour of sleep since Wednesday night, this will be our only post tonight. The beds are comfortable and our sleep is beyond needed!

Check back tomorrow for a more detailed look of our Mendenhall drop off and our experience in New Orleans!

Until then!
